The great news is that all red wines contain antioxidants that are good for you in countless ways, so it’s not a matter of picking a certain one for the most health benefits.  Obviously you want to pick a wine that you enjoy the taste of though.

You might try some organic wines; these are made from grapes that are not treated with chemicals such as pesticides.  There are certainly organic movements in the food industry and certainly this is true with wine too.  Many people and a body of research have asserted that organic is better for your health.

You need to keep in mind that red wine has been shown to be beneficial to health when consumed in moderation.  In other words, two glasses a day for men and one glass a day for women.  However wine, just like any other alcohol, consumed beyond moderation can be detrimental to health.

Remember last week I suggested making your own wine? Well it’s an appropriate time to again raise the subject.

You’re probably wondering how in the heck making your own wine relates to health?

Well, when you make your own wine you can pick your own ingredients: If you want organic grapes then you can buy them.  If you want a wine kit that utilizes organic ingredients, you can go that route.

Additionally, making your own wine can save you a lot of money, which allows you to even spend more on finer ingredients and thus make wines you really enjoy while still saving money.

Making your own wine means you can always have a supply on hand, so you can enjoy having wine as a healthy compliment to your meals.  It’s a much healthier drink than pop, or juices which are often filled with artificial sweeteners.

Being able to consume wine with your meals on a regular basis means you can reap the full benefits of the antioxidants found in wine (antioxidants are responsible for red wine’s many health benefits) because antioxidants are best utilized by the body when consumed with food.

Now making wine does not have to be difficult and it can be a lot of fun! You could go to a wine making supplier and pick up a wine kit tomorrow and get started.  You could also go to your library and pick up a book on wine making or ask someone who makes their own wine on how to get started.  These are all routes that many people follow.

However, if you want to get off to a solid start with wine making and save your time and money then I believe the best route available is through Scott Young’s guide called Delicious Wine Making Made Easy.

Whether you’re a complete beginner to wine making or someone with experience, you will benefit from Scott’s guide.  He lays the process out step-by-step and addresses the most challenging questions people face when making wine.
