Most Important Thing Concerning Wine
I receive many questions each and
every day about red wine. After having this website for some time, I’ve realized that the
most important thing I can do for you is to discuss the idea of enjoying red wine.
Why do I say this?
Because you can spend all the time in the world learning everything about wine, i.e. what are the best wines, what are the best vintages,
what are the characteristics of the different red wines, what glasses or accessories are needed, etc.; however, the most important thing to do is
really enjoy the wine.
Why this may seem obvious to you, many people when starting out (or before learning about enjoying the wine) concern themselves
with other things about wine. (A couple of examples are mentioned in the above
paragraph.)
What specifically do I
mean?
Simply put, I mean that learning how to properly sample and taste red wine (or any wine for that matter) is more important than
anything else.
If you think about it, your enjoyment of wine is really most important thing,
and what you enjoy is going to be particular to you. If you ask other people what they recommend,
you’re getting their perspective not your own.
Learn how to properly sample and taste wine and you’ll be in such as better position to continually increase your knowledge base
of wine and continually enjoy the process more and more as times goes on.
So, your enjoyment of red wine and whether you enjoy a particular red wine is paramount.
Once you’ve mastered the process of sampling and tasting red wine, you’ll then
be able to properly discern between and describe what it is in a wine that you really like.
You’re then in a proper position to try new wines and sample and describe which
wines will allow you to fully enjoy the pleasures that red wine can offer. You then can build up
your knowledge and concern yourself with learning about wines from other countries, the kinds of wine, the accessories for wine,
etc.
In other words you can then learn all of the other things that are important
about wine.
There’s more to this
though.
You need to really learn the process of what are the different things to look for in red wine and, as mentioned, you really use
most of your senses to do so.
Being able to enjoy wine means knowing how to fully use your sense of taste,
smell, even your sense of sight and touch (which I’ll describe momentarily).
The process of knowing what to look for can be intimidating and daunting; however there are great resources out there to help you
and we are going to talk about some of the things to look for right in this installment.
I’ve put together a short sheet on sampling and this enjoying red wine. You can get a
free copy by subsribing to my newsletter. (See details below). You can even save it to
your drive or feel free to send it to whomever you wish.
While there are many different aspects that encompass sampling wine, taking the time to learn about them and learning about the
process of discerning between them will not only end the intimidation that wine speak may have had over you, you also then have the proper
basic foundation to learn all about all the other aspects of red wine, and, in my opinion, learning how to sample wine means you’ll have
mastered the most important thing there is to learn about red wine (and all wine for that matter!).
